Donnie Shell Elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ former safety Donnie Shell has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will be joining the Centennial Class of 2020, joining former Steelers coach Bill Cowher. Shell has become the 10th player for the Steelers’ 1970s team to become a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the 26th member of the Steelers’ organization to earn the achievement.
Shell played for the Steelers from 1974 to 1987 and was a member of the infamous “Steel Curtain” defense. He is a four-time Super Bowl champion, was selected to the Pro Bowl five times, and was the team MVP in 1980. Steelers’ President Art Rooney II called Shell a “dynamic defender for our historic Steel Curtain defense in the 1970s.” Shell shared kind words about his appreciation for the election and the way his teammates spoke about him. “…It almost brought tears to my eyes. That was awesome,” Shell said. Shell went on to say that “This is the highlight of my career.” The enshrinement week for the Class of 2020 will take place August 6-9, 2020.
