Steelers vs Panthers Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ final preseason game was against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Steelers were looking for an undefeated preseason, but they lost to the Panthers 19-25.

Both teams sent their backups onto the field to compete for a position on the 53-man roster. No offensive or defensive starters were in uniform for the Steelers, except for Devin Bush as an inside linebacker. All other starters and backups were on the sideline for the entirety of the game. Bush’s effort and growth was satisfactory to Coach Mike Tomlin. Bush had six tackles in a quarter and a half. He is expected to have significant playing time when the regular season begins.

Joshua Dobbs didn’t have the opportunity to get many plays before Mason Rudolph was scheduled to switch in. On Monday, the two will know which one has earned the spot as a backup starter to Ben Roethlisberger. The Panthers cut the Steelers’ early lead, but the Steelers rallied to lead the game 16-10 at halftime. However, the Panthers would come back in the second half to score 15 points.

The Panthers would ultimately win the game, but there were a few shining stars on the Steelers’ line up. Mason Rudolph, Johnny Holton, Ulysees Gilbert III, and Tuzar Skipper were some players who stood out from start to finish. Their productive plays could not seal the deal, though. The Steelers’ final preseason record is 3-1.
